Maryborough Kitchen Renovation Decades in the Making

Tue, 22 Sep 2026 02:03:59 GMT

Creating a Kitchen That Reflects a Homeowner’s Vision

Some renovations are about updating a space. Others are about becoming part of a much bigger story.

We recently completed this beautiful kitchen renovation for a homeowner in Maryborough, who has spent decades slowly recreating and transforming their home to reflect their own personal style and vision.

We were incredibly proud to be invited to play a part in that journey.

A Timeless Kitchen With a Modern Feel

The finished kitchen brings together classic detailing and contemporary functionality, creating a space that feels sophisticated without losing the character of the home.

The cabinetry features a deep charcoal-grey finish with classic shaker-style detailing, giving the kitchen a timeless foundation. Warm brass-toned handles add contrast and bring a subtle sense of warmth to the darker cabinetry.

At the centre of the kitchen is a generous island bench, providing additional preparation space, storage and seating. It also creates a natural gathering point within the room — perfect for everyday family life as well as entertaining.

The light stone-look benchtop works beautifully against the darker cabinetry, while the clean white tiled splashback helps keep the space feeling bright and fresh.

Dark flooring, rich green walls and integrated appliances complete the look, creating a kitchen with plenty of depth and personality.

Designed to Be Enjoyed

What we particularly love about this renovation is that it doesn't feel like a kitchen that has simply been installed. It feels like it belongs in the home.

After decades of carefully shaping the property around their own tastes, the homeowner now has a kitchen that complements the wider character of the house while providing the modern functionality they need.

We're grateful to have been part of such a meaningful renovation and to help bring another chapter of this home's story to life.

Kitchen Renovation in Central Maryborough

From a Classic L-Shaped Kitchen to a Modern, Functional Space

Sometimes, the biggest difference a kitchen renovation can make isn't the colour of the cabinetry or the choice of benchtop — it's the layout.

For this renovation, we took a classic L-shaped kitchen, a configuration that was extremely popular in kitchens of the past, and completely reworked the space to create a more contemporary and functional design.

Making Better Use of the Available Space

The original L-shaped configuration had served the kitchen well, but the layout wasn't making the best use of the available space. By changing the configuration, we were able to introduce a large central island, creating valuable additional bench space and storage while also opening up the room.

The island provides a practical workspace for food preparation, while also creating a natural area for seating and entertaining. The result is a kitchen that feels more open, more connected and significantly more functional.

Combining Modern Design With Existing Character

The new layout is complemented by streamlined cabinetry and modern finishes, creating a clean and contemporary aesthetic.

Rather than completely changing the character of the room, the design works beautifully with the home's existing features. In particular, the warm timber flooring adds natural warmth and texture, balancing the modern cabinetry and finishes.

This combination of old and new gives the renovated kitchen a sense of continuity while still delivering a fresh, contemporary feel.

The Difference Thoughtful Design Makes

This project is a great example of how much of an impact a well-considered kitchen layout can have.

A renovation doesn't always require more space — sometimes it simply requires making better use of the space you already have.

By rethinking the original layout and introducing a practical island, we were able to create a kitchen that looks better, works better and makes the entire room feel more inviting.

Considering a kitchen renovation? Our team can help you rethink your existing space and create a layout designed around the way you actually live.

Kitchen Trends 2025: Sustainable, Smart, and Stylish

Thu, 21 Aug 2025 00:03:30 GMT

In 2025, kitchen and bathroom design is shifting toward sustainability, advanced technology, and bold personalization.

From custom kitchen cabinets to eco-friendly materials and smart appliances , this year’s trends bring together beauty and functionality in fresh new ways.

Key Kitchen & Bathroom Design Trends for 2025

Sustainable Design

Homeowners are prioritizing eco-friendly choices, and sustainable kitchen and bathroom design is leading the way. Materials like bamboo, reclaimed wood, and recycled glass are becoming popular not just for their durability but also for their environmental benefits. Choosing sustainable cabinetry and surfaces reduces your carbon footprint while creating a timeless aesthetic.

Bold and Vibrant Colors

The era of all-white kitchens is fading. This year, homeowners are embracing colorful custom cabinets and accents in rich, bold shades. Think emerald greens, navy blues, and earthy terracotta tones. These colors add personality and warmth, creating a kitchen that feels unique and inviting.

Mid-Century Modern Style

The timeless appeal of mid-century modern is making a comeback. With its clean lines, natural wood cabinetry, and retro-inspired elements , this style blends simplicity with function. Pairing sleek cabinets with warm wood tones creates a modern yet cozy atmosphere.

Open Display Storage

Open shelving and glass-front cabinets are gaining traction as homeowners look for ways to showcase beautiful dishware and curated collections. This trend makes kitchens feel airy and personalized while highlighting craftsmanship in cabinetry.

Statement Backsplashes

In 2025, the backsplash becomes a focal point. Expect to see dramatic full-height backsplashes in marble, terrazzo, or mosaic tile. Extending to the ceiling, these designs make a bold statement and elevate the entire kitchen’s look.

Bringing It All Together

As kitchens continue to evolve into multifunctional spaces, these modern kitchen trends for 2025 offer inspiration for creating a home that blends style, sustainability, and technology. Whether you’re considering a complete renovation or a cabinetry refresh, these design directions highlight how the kitchen can be both practical and deeply personal.

At Evolution Kitchens and Cabinets , we specialize in creating custom kitchen cabinets and designs tailored to your lifestyle. From eco-friendly materials to bold color palettes, our team can help bring your vision to life.

Maryborough Project

Tue, 29 Apr 2025 06:25:15 GMT

This kitchen renovation beautifully reimagines a once traditional cottage-style kitchen into a sleek, modern kitchen and dining space.

The transformation began with a complete overhaul of the layout, optimizing functionality and flow. By removing the original fridge partition wall and re-orienting the awkwardly positioned island bench, we created much more efficient, and aesthetically pleasing, cooking and dining spaces.

High-end materials and craftsmanship are shown throughout, with premium quality cabinetry and finishes that not only enhance the kitchen’s durability but also give it a refined, contemporary feel. The cabinetry was thoughtfully designed to make the most of every inch - slim drawers were cleverly installed in previously unused spaces, offering the perfect storage solutions for chopping boards and oil bottles. Hidden cupboards were also integrated into the island bench, providing discreet yet thoughtful storage without interrupting the clean, modern lines of the design.

One of the standout design elements is the stunning white brick splashback, which adds texture and character while maintaining the crisp aesthetic of the modern redesign. Complemented by updated appliances and a spacious, well-organized pantry, this kitchen now combines timeless style with practical design - perfect for both everyday living and entertaining.
